In press release no. 77 of 30 June 2026, the Ministry of Economy and Finance clarified that the split payment mechanism will continue to apply without interruption even after 30 June 2026.
The European Commission’s proposal to renew the authorisation is currently under consideration by the Council of the EU, with a conclusion expected on 10 July 2026. However, as the authorisation is due to take effect from 1 July 2026, the parties concerned may continue to apply the split payment mechanism in accordance with the rules already in force.
The measure, governed by Article 17-ter of Presidential Decree 633/1972, is expected to apply until 30 June 2029 to the same parties already covered by the scheme.
From an operational perspective, businesses and professionals will therefore be able to continue issuing split-payment invoices to public administrations, bodies and companies falling within the scope of the regulation.
